Cool Nap Mat
Check out the cool nap mat Gram made for Joshua! He needed one for school since they take naps in the afternoon (which cracks me up since Joshua hasn't napped in years). I bought him a very boring vinyl mat from Wal -Mart when school started. Oops! I forgot we live in Madison! All of the kids came to school with cool homemade ones. So everyday I hear from Joshua how his is so "uncomfortable." Okay! I get the point! So Gram stepped in and saved the day! He is very excited to bring it to school tomorrow! Crisis over!

School Follow Up
Both boys had a great day! Dylan was so excited when I picked him up today. He said over and over, "mommy, I missed you!" It was so cute. He said he played on the slide and made 2 new friends. I was impressed with all of the details he gave me. His teachers said he did great and he is such a sweet boy. I am glad he had fun! Joshua is a pro with this whole school thing now. ( thank you Lord!) He is having fun riding the bus and always has things to tell me about his day. Tim and I went to his open house tonight and got to see his classroom and his teacher showed us all of the things she hopes to teach him this year. I think we can start to put the school drama behind us now!
Dylan's First Day of School
Today was Dylan's turn to start school. He attends the CDC program at our church. I knew his first day of school would not be as eventful as Joshua's (thank goodness) but it was still a special day. Dylan has been looking forward to starting school since last year when we would drop off and pick up Joshua from preschool. He was excited to get a big boy backpack and lunchbox. Since his school is the same place we attend church I am not sure if he knows the difference between the two but I am sure over time he will. The program at Asbury is so wonderful. They keep the kids busy the entire time. Joshua learned so much there, we are happy Dylan gets to have the same experience. He was excited getting ready this morning. It was time to go to the classroom right when we got there so there was not much time for any drama. I dropped him off and he went right in and started doing a puzzle. I tried to sneak off but he caught me and started to cry. I went ahead and left and never turned back. I know he probably settled down quickly since this is his normal routine when we drop him off for church. I am about to go pick him up so we will see how his day went!

Happy Morning!
We had a very happy morning here today. I was so glad to see Joshua in good spirits about school. I was not looking forward to this morning at all. I figured with 2 days off from school he would not want to go again. He got up with no problems this morning! He was excited to wear a new a Star Wars shirt to school so I think that helped but I will take whatever I can get. He also got right on the school bus without any issues. I have a better day knowing he left here happy in the morning than when I have to fight with him and he is upset. Dylan had open house today for his preschool. It is at our church and as soon as we pulled in the parking lot Dylan said "Go home mommy, no church today!" I guess he knew we were there yesterday and he wasn't in the mood to go again today. We went in and met his new teachers for the year. They seem really nice. After that we went and played on the playground for a while. Sarah Hendrix and little boy Kyler came out there after a while and we chatted while the boys played. We had a great morning. Hopefully Dylan will do okay tomorrow at school. He always cries when we leave him with someone else but then quickly gets over it. I am not too worried about him. What will I do with my spare time?! I know I will find something. I already have a lunch date with a friend on Thursday. I love school!

All Is Well
I was one of the first parents in car line to pick Joshua up from school today. I thought he would be sooo excited to see me. I figured he would come running out of the school with a huge smile on his face.... I was wrong! I was surprised to see him crying when the teacher walked him to the car. He was in the gym waiting to be called to go home and I guess he didn't hear his number. The teacher had to yell it again and it upset him thinking he was in trouble! Poor guy! They explained he was not in trouble but his feelings were still hurt. Other than that he had a great day! He likes his teacher a lot and saw a few friends from his preschool. He was really excited to play on the playground and eat in the lunchroom. He said the school lunch looked really good and he wants that next time. I guess all that love I put into his ham sandwich doesn't count for much! The other thing he was not so happy with was nap time. He hasn't taken a nap since he was 6 months old. He said all of the other kids closed their eyes and rested but he just kept thinking "when will this be over?" He does not go to school tomorrow. They split the class into 2 days so it wouldn't be so overwhelming for the kids and teachers. He will start his normal schedule Friday...just in time for the weekend! He says he is ready to ride the bus and go to school again. Keep your fingers crossed!
First Day Of School
It is hard to believe that this day is already here. Joshua had his first day of kindergarten today. The summer has been full of anxiety for him about this big step in his life. He has always enjoyed his preschool classes but this was going to be a new world for him and I. This morning was a roller coaster of emotions for us. He woke up happy, but then quickly remembered today he was going to school. He tried to hide under the covers for a while but eventually got up when I told him we should get ready quickly so we can watch his friend Diego get on the school bus. Joshua is going to ride the bus also but I decided to drop him off and pick him up the first day. He got dressed and ate his breakfast a lot faster than I thought he would. We saw the kids gathering at the end of our driveway for the bus so we went out there to talk to the neighbors while they waited. Joshua was very excited for school at this point. After the bus picked up the kids we went in inside to finish getting ready. That's when it started getting a little rough. He said he didn't want to go to school and was just going to stay home with me. He started getting really upset. I tried my best to not get upset with him, but I told him we didn't have a choice and he had to go! Tim stayed home with Dylan and Joshua and I left for the school. On the way there he had lots of questions. He was afraid I would go to the store and forget to pick him up. I assured him I would never forget to pick him up! We pulled up in car line and he got upset and was hugging the back of the chair crying he didn't want to go. After a minute of this I decided to park and walk him in. It took a few minutes to calm him down but he did and into school we went. It was a little hectic to say the least inside the school ( and a really long story I won't bore you with) but once he saw the other kids and his friend Diego again, things got much better. We waited in line until his teacher was ready to take the class. He hugged me a few times but he went off with his class with no problems. I was very proud of him. I was glad I ended up going inside with him because I got to see that he had calmed down and was where he was supposed to be. I have to admit, as excited as I have been for school to start, I was more upset than I thought I would be. I was really sad when I came home with out him and only had Dylan. It is a bittersweet feeling. I am so proud of him and I know he is ready for school but this starts another chapter in my life that I am not as ready for as I thought. For 5 years Joshua was with me most of the time. We always would come and go as we pleased. We had a chance to do a lot of fun things together. I am excited for him that he is growing up, but I love him so much and want him to stay my little baby forever. I pray that he is having a great day at school and will let you know how it went!
