Passey Fairy

Dylan is 2 1/2 now so we decided it was time for him to hand over the passey. Joshua had his until he was 3 and then gave them to Baby Dylan. We felt it was time to take it away from Dylan since he wants his all of the time. He talks so much and so well I get upset at him when he tries to tell us something with the passey in his mouth. Not to mention he look silly since he is a BIG 2 year old. My friend Courtney was telling me she took her daughter's blanket away by telling her the blanket fairy (or something like that) was coming. The fairy was going to give the blanket to the little babies. The fairy then leaves a surprise in exchange. ( I know, you are thinking you already know how this works!) Anyway! So I told Dylan while he was school the fairy was coming to take his passey and leave him a surprise. He packed his passey in a bag and left it on the chair. When he got home the passey was gone. He got a movie, some candy, and a Scooby doo toy. He was very excited! It took him over an hour to fall asleep for his first nap without the passey and we had a pretty long night last night. He has only asked for it a few times though. I think he just has to learn how to comfort himself now. He will be fine in a few days!

He'll get over it quickly. Kinsley was 2yr and 10 mo when we took her passies away. She put them in the drawer of her night stand before she went to bed that night. It was nearly an hour ordeal b/c she had to suck on each of them one last time and she had about a dozen. When I told her last one, she slammed the drawer shut, got her stuffed animal, fussed a little, then finally went to sleep. The passy fairy left her a blue bear and blue flower sucker just like she asked for. :) We had maybe one night that was hard, but she was so excited about her blue bear that she was okay w/o the passy.

I understand taking the passey away (Mine was taken away for dental reasons), but to take away a security blanket? That's very traumatic. Can't there be weaning, ie you can only have it at night when you sleep?
